Don't know why people care about build date anyway. The regs state truck model year. The guidance that came out later states engine model year. No where does it say anything about build date.

There will be a engine model year on the valve cover on your factory reman series 60. There is on mine. I have a 2016 factory reman but it still says conforms to 2002 model year on valve cover.

Well, it's a bit tricky. For example Detroit has a sticker usually, which has a model year printed on it, but Cummins only has build date stamped and nothing about model year.
It's just basically everything what was built in 99 has a 99 model year. I have yet to see a truck built in 99 to have a 2000 model year sticker, so probably that's why people just discuss the build date

Mine is a 06RE built by Detroit in 2016 how I wanted it. They provided old serial number. Block came new in a 94 Kw. Ran all this by compliance office. So yeah I do have some knowledge. The block is not New after reman, goes back to original casting date.

Just because it says it conforms to a particular emissions year doesn’t mean that’s the year of the block.

Rule states last I looked was changed to engine build date. Reason was so many people were pre buying engines back then. Seen plenty of 00-01 non egr engines in 02-03 trucks

Nope, never the build date, it's always been model year. Either truck or engine.

    Here is the link.
When does the pre-2000 model year exception apply?

    I know that.

All they are looking for is model year and it's right on your valve cover. What more do you need.
