    Thanks.
I did know what loose leaf paper is though.
I was inquiring into the type 1 or type 2 question.

This was what I was asking about.

    Cycle 1 (70/7) or Cycle 2 (120/14).

@starmac, the answer is, yes. Cycle 1 is the overwhelming majority.

I used to buy the log book with stapled pages and just take them out for loose leaf. Simple.

Interesting...I have never once noted that in my log book, and never has CVSE asked me in 34 years.

When I was running up to Canada before I was on ELD I was told to write Cycle 1 on the log on the days I was in Canada.

If you are not operating under a federal safety certificate it may not be required. Even if you are operating under a federal certificate an exception such as those for loggers or oilfield (link) may apply. Otherwise, it is absolutely required; it is what defines the available hours on a federal safety certificate. It is also one of the favourite form & manner violations for enforcement officers to hone in on. Your ELDs are likely programmed to default to Cycle 1, unless exempt.

Grabbed a book and read the regs as printed on it inside and on the back. Without ever thinking about it I just order them by the case, I have books that don't even mention 120hrs in 14 days, they only discuss 70 hrs in 7 days, which would explain why CVSE has never asked, the books are just based on it, and they probably sell different ones for people who run type 2 trips. I have done the same things for so long, how I even order is probably not typical. I text a woman I use for stationary stuff and including log books, when we open the last case of them. It is her personal cellphone number, I just text her 'Hi. Getting low on log books. Have a great day' and within a few days she arrives in her vehicle with 20 more cases, and anything else that myself, my daughter, the bookkeeper, or office manager had texted her about needing. If it is really large like another filing cabinet for example, then it usually 2 young guys in a van that show up instead of her. But 99% of the time it is her smiling face I see, and she has been driving some variation of an SUV for the past 20 years when she arrives. All I know is that she is a local person, and ultra reliable...I don't require anything else. And just firing off a quick text when I need something is awesome. If I send her a text asking for a box of pens, case of staples, and a case of printer paper, she arrives within 24 hours, unless it is a weekend. If a young lady shows up instead of her, I now know it is her daughter, and she must be away on vacation, so I ask the young lady where her mother has gone to. This winter it was a month in Mexico, the daughter had her SUV, and mama must just relay my texts to her, and everything shows up in a timely manner, and still with a smile and friendly hello.
Yes, I am a creature of habit, and didn't know that without thinking about it I just get log books for 70 hrs in 7 in the rules printed on them. Yes, there are probably cheaper options to buy items at as well, but I don't care, because exceptional service with a smile is better than saving a dollar.

I was told it was required, so always marked it on there. It was never mentioned the times I was checked, and have no clue what would have transpired if I hadn't put it on there. I found MOST Canadian dot to be easy enough to get along with, when something minor was wrong.

I was even inspected in the supercoupe building in Tok Alaska by a dot out of white horse Yukon. When I pulled in and seen who it was, I told him this just isn't right. lol

I generally have good experiences with them.
Cindy who worked a scale shack 30 years ago was a bit over the top about stuff...but really they treat me okay.
