Poor Lucson was forced to take a 10 hour break 5 minutes away from his house :(
But Lucson was luck to have a place 5 minutes from his house to park :)
Or Lucson may be full of ####

Drivers would be required to take a 10-hour off-duty break at the conclusion of their 14 hours on-duty after using the proposed pause option...

However, the agency has proposed a slight revision of the allowed split-sleeper berth options, which would allow drivers to split their off-duty sleeper berth time into two periods of seven hours and three hours, similar to the current eight-hour, two-hour split allowed under current regulations. This change is in addition to the proposal to allow drivers to pause their 14-hour clock. A significant difference, too, is that the shorter break wouldn’t count against the driver’s next 14-hour on-duty period...

I'm confused. If you pause for 3 hours you would have to take a 10 after or if you pause for 3 you would only have to take the remaining 7?

Nothing wrong with some flexibility IMO. Seems like a move in the right direction.

If Lucson would have been on paper logs, he’d already be dead and unable to interview.

If Lucson hauled livestock on paper logs, he’d be in a fiery crash leaving the stockyard.

If it's good enough for politicians, it's good enough for us.

(Actually, I wish politicians would do less--every time they get an idea, we take it in the shorts.)

Once my day starts, I expect to be paid for every moment of that day. I'm not out there as a social event, I'm out there at the behest of my company. You need me to work 17 hours? I'll cuss you, but I'll do it PROVIDED I am paid for everything except my lunch break.

If I am taking a three-hour break due to unforeseen circumstances, I'm doing that at a company facility for the benefit of the company. If I'm on lunch break, I'm resting for myself.

    Two very different things.

I'm confused on that subject as well. I guess it would/could be treated like taking a 2 hour OFF DUTY now - you have the option to use it for a split break, or you can just take a 10 and start a fresh cycle. Plus. now it will extend the 14, pretty much solving the issue of having to race the clock through rush hour traffic and have the option to stop and shower or eat. Eliminating the 14 hour would be the best, but I read, and re-read the proposals, and for a group of people that have no experience trucking, it's a miracle that it's actually as well put together as it is.

Well, little bit different form of question. You doing your daily routine but today you sick and can't be so productive as usually. You can take break for 3 hours nap and return home to lovely wife. Or you think I should pay you for your sickness? Better to find job in office.

Uhhh...you get me when I'm feeling better than average, and you pay me the same. So you can pay me the same when I'm feeling less than average, and it all evens out.

I don’t care. I rarely work and drive more than 8 hours in a day. HOS hasn’t been an issue with me for as long as I can remember. I stay out 3 weeks at a time on average, but I just relax while I’m gone and take it easy. I don’t chase the dollar, I chase the peace of mind
