Prevention, prevention and prevention. It helped me to take for oil changes and pay a little extra to check everything and change or fix anything that was going to be a problem, fortunately I did spend money in repairs at all. I saved a lot in deasel because is cascadia and most of the time I haul light loads and I do not drive over 65 miles , not matter what . And that amount is with my salary included .
You are going to go through all of this just to make $70k when you increase your risk of making nothing by 140%, risk putting yourself in bankruptcy by 100% and working three times as hard to keep the truck moving. I would just look for a good paying driving position because some drivers make a bit more than $70k. I have drivers who get to go home when they want and make more than $70k, a lot of these positions are out there for drivers just takes time to find them.
Or you just don’t lease or buy a brand new truck. I paid cash for all of mine and the maintenance isn’t even more than a newer truck in most cases. Not to mention cheaper insurance.
Oooohhh so you are leased on running under someone else’s authority? If that’s the case I don’t see you doing much better. They paid you crap as a driver, maybe their pay is crap as an O/O? Honestly though 200k gross being under someone is pretty good. Now you need to figure out how to lower expenses to boost your profit. I personally think you should get your own authority and try to gross 250k or higher. Seems as if you are carrying most all the expenses anyway so you might as well make all the money too.
