I had a CM870 (EGR) Cummins ISX in my '06 379. Ran great, got better fuel mileage than a Cat, but be prepared to replace EGR valves/coolers once every 1-2 years. Or I hear there are things you can do about the EGR problem that solve it permanently but aren't okay to discuss here.

Heard about the liners dropping and causing head gasket and other problems. Also i was talking to an owner op at the Beacon who said he had his fuel pump replaced bc it had porcelain internal parts. Cummins started a recall bc in would desenigrate and destroy the motor they started to recall for awhile then stopped honoring it. Change the turbo after abt 300,000 miles and egr every year

480,000 sounds about right if it only worked summers hauling locally. My dad owned a brand new '07 T800 with the pre emission ISX 530. It only really had like 2 egr valves and the turbo changed in it over the year and a half he ran it (All warrantied). He said it pulled better and burned less fuel than his old '03 T800 C15. They all have their issues but if the rest of the truck has been looked after and everything looks mechanically sound and clean it might be a good deal.

That tranny swap is gonna cost a lot in just parts and we'll assume you'll do the labor, if not then you might wanna just but a truck that you have to limited modifying unless you have deep pockets then go for it.

There is a reason your family runs C-15s and Detroit S60s.

If my mind serves me correctly, the 2005 is PRE- EGR. EGR didn't come until 2007 on the ISM engines.
