Hey guys. I have my buddies 1996 379 in the shop and I was going to look at fixing a few gauges that don't work (fuel level, oil temp, pryo) I was trying to locate the oil temp sensor and I can't seem to find it. Nothing in bottom of pan. Have power going to the gauge on the white wires the gauge doesn't move at all.

It won't have a cat oem temp sensor.

It should have a Peterbuilt installed sensor in the pan. If the wires are there someone took it out.

Peterbilt was good about there wiring harness' if there is a gauge in the dash then the wiring harness for the sensor should be in the engine harness. On my 1993 379 with a Cat 3406C the wire # for my oil temp sensor is 282 on the engine harness

    Oxbow and swaan Thank this.

There should be a small tin band around that wire close to the plug end with stamped #'s on it.

    Oxbow Thanks this.

I think someone removed it and took out the sensor cause the wire has been used and has a joint on it. Thanks for your help!

    Oxbow Thanks this.

You can test the wire by grounding it out and looking to see if it pegs the gauge. Might pay to check with a test light first to make sure it isn't another wire that is hot.
