Been running a fair amount of freight around Toronto. The construction is killing me. How would an american driver go about getting a transponder so I can bypass that mess around 400 and I think 401?

If not, is there a route from 400 to 401 west without going thru that cluster?

    Thks

Taxpayers paid for the highway. Tolls were to be collected until it was paid off, then conservative government leased it for 100 years to a private corporation for 1 billion dollars. Now we get to enjoy the ### reaming of said private corporation. It's a rip off.

Change the time at which you cross the city. Late night or early morning is best. Avoid Fridays of long weekends. Save you a bundle of money.

Big Rodg-O there. I've always tried to time places like Montreal, the GTA, NYC for the wee hours. Thoo I guess if you're running local, you don't have that option.

Do you have a US EasyPass account ? I thought the accounts were all linked now - IE Ontario 407, NJ Turnpike, Maine Turnpike, Confederation Bridge, etc .... you just have to sign up for new accounts and keep the main account up to like $2000 or something like that .... ?

Wow, somebody is awful proud of that road to charge that price. For that much they should have someone to drive the truck for me.

The problem with timing is my loads have been coming out of NY or PA the last couple weeks and I havn't been able to get my schedule right.

My loads in are usually live unloads in Brampton or Concord. Then I ususally head to Huntsville and grab a load to Carbondale PA. Then somewhere in NY or PA, or the drop yard in Tonawanda and the cycle starts all over.

Got lucky yesterday and grabbed on out in Stratford to near Pittsburg. Not due till Monday so I can do a reset.

I will say one thing for Canadain drivers, they will let you move into congested traffic if you put a blinker on, so that helps.

The "Big Truck Blinker Rule" applies to all Ontario 400 series hiways just like all NY-CT-NJ Tri-State ( IE - Cross Bronx, Bruckner, etc ) ..... it reads that: If the guy/gal/four wheeler/ten wheeler/ etc/ etc .... HASN'T SEEN your blinker AFTER the fourth blink ..... then you just change lanes anyway ..... five or more blinks aren't going to make a difference at that point ..... Just go .....

    :confused2:

In the mid 90's I was training company drivers to drive in and out of NYC - I called it 'pulling a Manhatten' - get out there and get moving or sign a lease for where you're at !! Let the 'neighbors' know you're there, just try not to drive over them !

Yeah - Just a follow up to my EasyPass post - - If you're a broker, as you sound like you are, isn't a toll road, or EasyPass statement, a businesss expensess, or a write off ? It is in Canada.

The Maguinty Liberals tried in court to force the corporation to limit the increase in toll rates, but ultimately failed. The original lease was "iron clad" and could not be amended or altered.

There is going to be an extension of the 407 from Brock road to Peterborough. The extension is not to be leased out, but stay within the provincial governments control.

I remember when commercial rates were $0.15 per km, now it's just ridiculous.

The original lease has been bought and sold a few times by different corporations, for a hell of a lot more than 1 billion.

Politicians serving their friends in high places at our expense.

That's a mess right now. No good way to avoid it. You say Huntsville, you can get off the 400 at Highway 9, take it over to Highway 27 or all the way to Orangeville and then head south to the 401. Won't save a whole lot of time but you'll feel like you're moving atleast.
