Ok so have heard so much about the 6NZ Cat motor being the best and everything. I am just curious as to what makes them different from the rest of the single turbo C-15 motors. Anybody help me on this?

There were only two single turbo C-15 engines built

The 6NZ and the newer MBN bridge motor.

the difference between the 3406E and the C-15 is the block structure is much stronger, plus CAT changed the way the front structure, flywheel housing, oil pan and valve covers seal to stop oil leaks

The electronics changed also............you went from a 40 pin ECM on a 3406E to a 70 pin ECM with a much faster processor in the C-15

Mr. Haney, What is the difference between the MBN and the 6NZ? I see the difference between the 3406 and the C-15 now. Also what is the major gain over the 6NZ as to say a MXS with the compounds? Sorry for the questions I am just curious as the why the 6NZ is such a sought after motor.

Then you also have the franken motors like mine. Old style block, with new style electronics. The 2ws are the first of the 70pin ecms along with the 1MM for the big bore engines

They're the same except for pistons, cam, injectors (I believe) turbo, and programming. You can make an MBN a 6NZ pretty easy. The MBN is just the quick answer to the new EPA standards that year and they had to pay a fine for each one produced because it wasn't as "clean" as the EPA would have liked. But it didn't run as well and got worse fuel mileage than the 6nz so the EPA was sort of satisfied with the results of their rules.:biggrin_2559:

Alright then. I see why the 6nz is what it is now.

The MXS was built for emission regulations and nothing about performance. Every change made to the engines since the first E models has strictly been done for emmissions. Even the 6NZ had thins done to it that a 1LW didn't for emissions, but the 6NZ also had a lot of mechanical upgrades from the E model, These were to the front drive assembly and how the gasket seals to prevent oil leaks. My choice of engines is the 6NZ or 7CZ, becuase the block is strong and the electronics are easy to deal with. You don't have all the crap added to the engines of the Acerts for emissions, they are much less prone to problems as they get miles on them compared to the Acert.

1MM is pretty well the same as a 2WS they both have 70pin electronics and share the block with the 1LW pre 6nz style. The 1MM is the big bore 3406E before the 7CZ. Definitely worth picking it up if the price is right. If you dojn't want it, I'd take it.
