Thank you for the helpful reply. I listed ANY on the shifts question, but that's sort of assumed for OTR.

It would be nice to have a union job again after three decades of not having one. Before age 23 I held jobs in three different unions: Amalgamated Transit, Teamsters, and Service Employees International. Still have my withdrawal cards from the AT and Teamsters (didn't know there was such a thing when I left my SEIU job at a bowling alley).

If I remember to, I'll report back here where I end up hiring. My four OTR jobs to date have all been pretty good, each one better than the previous. My last one (at Poly Trucking) is going to be hard to beat, but I'm hopeful it can be done.

Good luck to you in your job search. I'm trying to find a good fit for myself as well. I have a decent gig now, but no benefits. So time to go.

Does anyone know about how long it takes for ABF to get in touch with you after you apply? They just opened a City Driver position near me and I applied last night. My problem is that I road test in 2 days and am done my current job at the end of the week. I have a pre-hire for a OTR company and they want me in orientation ASAP. I would really like to pursue ABF but I don't want to put my life on hold either. Bills have a nasty way of not paying themselves. If anyone doesn't have an estimate on contact time, do you think it would help if I called the HR number on the website? It seems like a number to their headquarters and I don't know if they hire from there or local? Any input is appreciated.
