New to the forum and wanted to say hi. Question about age: I'm 67 and just got my CDL-A with hazmat and tanker endorsements. I've applied to a bunch of student hiring companies with no replies so far. I'm in good shape with no medical problems. I know by law that they can't discriminate because of age but I wonder if they actually do. Anyone know about that?

Welcome to the forum! Glad you wandered in! AS far as age, not discrimination, but insurance companies will often set a minimum age of the driver that can be hired to keep rates lower for the company. Often, companies will be required to have a minimum age of 23 or 25. Federal regulations require you to be 21 for interstate commercial driving.
Students of all ages are having a tough time finding jobs right now. Stick with it, things will turn around.
Schneider did have a program with AARP to recruit older drivers . You might check with AARP to see if that program is still active .
hey there 330 gongradt's on getting your credentials...don't know the answere to your question but best of luck to ya keep us posted...take care
Its going to be hard Our accountants cousin has been driving for ever and just turned 81 As OO he has never had trouble until now The company he was leased onto folded and he is not getting any call backs So yes you can get hired if times were better
I retired from a small, family-owned company. Before I retired, we had a drivers' safety meeting one Friday. The senior driver was there, and everything seemed normal. The following Tuesday, he was called to the office. It was his 68th birthday. That is the last we saw of him. He did not come back for his retirement pizza break.
Thank you all for your input. In answer to your question of what I did before I retired: I flew for a major airline for 40 yrs. but the economy has hit my IRA pretty hard. Retired in 2001 when the madatory reitirement age was 60 and it's been changed to 65 since then.
