I'll be jumping into an auto for the first time today when I take my road test. I'll be pulling a tank.

    Any pointers?

You know the very minute you get in that truck you stop being a real super trucker. You might have to send in your supertrucker membership card.

They do take a little getting used to. Don't believe for a second that they're automatics, theure automated. They're air actuated manual transmissions. If you're at a stop light and let off the brake, you'll roll. In drive it's not that big of a deal, in reverse they're a pain in the ###. The truck has a clutch, but you don't have control over it to feather it. So drive with your left foot on the brake when backing. It's not hard, just very clumsy till you get used to it.

If it has a clutch,it would be when you come to a stop.

If it's one of those autoshifts or whatever, that have everything but a shifter, I can't help you. Never drove one. I just drove freight and volvo autos
