I've been talking to Averitt. Can anyone give me any information, good or bad, about working for this company? It's hard to ask the right questions w/out correct info.

your going to here all kinds of things about people that don't like Averitt.
but a company that has over 600 active employees that have 20 years of service must be doing something right, especially with the turnover in this industry.
I have did a lot of research over the last few months on Averitt and I think they are a good company

Their drivers are as bad as any bottom feeder company, they just figure out how to not get in wrecks like other companies. They drive like their poo don't stink.

Averitt truckload sucks but you usually have to start there and work your way over to LTL side.

I tell every driver I meet including myself this: You have start somewhere. Even if it means working the dock and working your way up to the position you want. Most of the companies I have worked for have asked this question "Where do you want to be in one or two years???" If you interview for a dock position and tell them I'd like to work my way up to a driver position, the company may look closer at your work and see how you do. Or if the company has openings for a driver, they may advise to keep applying when a driver position opens up. Its all up to you and how hard of a worker you are. Do not think hard goes unnoticed as sooner or later the higher ups will recognize the dedication and the effort you put in.

Averitt is ALWAYS hiring for truckload, enough said!

However as Challenger mentioned we all have to start somewhere. Put your time in and make the most of it, there aren't any perfect jobs out here. Spend a year or two and do a good job and you will be able to pick and choose your next company.
