I would say so, most schools barely give that much time total behind the wheel ! Which includes all the skills, driving time etc.
Is that 16 individual hours of backing, or does it include ALL the students? The more backing practice you have, the better off you are. Even to the point that if you can, you should try to get into a truck by yourself and practice backing on their course. If they will allow it. There is no such thing as TOO MUCH backing practice!
i agree; In fact what i suggest and have suggested before is to get a trailer hitch for your car/truck, buy, borrow, rent or build your own trailer. The longer the better. Also, boat trailers are good. And practice, practice, practice.
16 is probably enough to get you through the CDL driving test. Yup... practice, practice, practice. And while you're at it, Get Out And Look. It'll help you to see what you're doing wrong - not to mention keep you from getting killed by the guy you just avoided backing into!
The trick is to stay in the truck until they kick you out of it. Couple extra minutes here and a couple extra there can add up to a lot of time over the course of the schooling. I ended up with several more hours behind the wheel than the others in my class who left at the first opportunity, just by asking if I could try something a few more times.
It is not bad. Will help you to pass the road test. Actually I learned backing with trailer after I started working for a company.
I found out today that they do give 16 individual hours backing. However, i cannot get a trailer for practice at this point. Is it still enough?
It should be, but that is really gonna depend on how quick a learner you are. If you have some depth perception problems, that could be a problem, and of course everyone learns on their own curve.
