There are some drivers that drive all night, then take their 10 in the sleeper during the day time. In truck stops.
Yep, just cause the sun's shining doesn't mean that driver next to you might be asleep. Yo, Don, let's petitition to make trucking 12/6 instead of 24/7. It'd work man, really, it would!!!
I know that. I've been there and done that myself. That is why I said to not blast the horns, but just give a quick toot. Again, it's up to driver discretion. If you pull up next to another truck to back into a spot and it looks like that driver might be sleeping in the bunk, don't honk. But if you are out in the open, it's not gonna hurt and could warn some idiot about to walk behind you that isn't paying attention to the flashers or moving trailer. Do I fully advocate this "silly" policy they are forcing us to do? Not entirely. While I may occasionally, depending again on the situations, toot the horns before backing, I refuse to do it everytime and every few seconds as instructed. And while I do think it is a good safety step, I do not think it will solve any of Swifts backing problems.
Is this an April fools joke? Come on.....who is going to type in the place/city/state they are backing in??? That would be like.....dumb ....you could be backed in by the time you typed that in if you were a slow typist!!! This is a joke, right??? Next you will be telling us you have to type in when you turn your blinker on....
Come to think of it, you had better let them know once you have completed the turn or lane change, that you have now turned the blinker OFF! Wouldn't want you running down the road with your signal on now, would they. . .
While they're at it maybe we can get them to require a message and reason before turning on the fog lights.
I can tell you one thing.... The first truck that wakes me out of a sound sleep regardless of time because he is beeping his little horn will have one pissed off flatbedder standing there in his underwear shoving that horn up that driver's arse!
I had blow his horn the other night in Laredo at the terminal. Right next to me, around 10 pm, and he was backing up his BT. That is just no common sense.
I'm not sure a horn 70' away, blowing in the opposite direction, is a good 'warning' to someone walking towards your rear on the blind side...I do, like others said, think it's a good way to piss someone off that's maybe 10-15' away from your front end...If flashers and seeing someone angled in front of an empty space isn't enough of a sign that that person may be backing up, I don't know what would be...
I agree, if you are a TRUCKER in a TRUCK STOP parking lot..if you cannot avoid getting hit by a driver backing up with 4-ways on..... the late-great George Carlin summed it up best.....
