BAXTER: They have a nice fleet of Straight trucks there home every night, and If by some chance there not Baxter pays for the Hotel. From what the drivers tell me there making about $27/hr. It is a very physical job. I think they have OTR drivers in Tractors to but I'm not sure I work in shipping not receiving. What the home delivery drivers do: 1) Load 1-12 pallets in there straight truck using a pallet jack 2) Each pallet has 1-3 customers on them stacked in order of delivery, to make life easier on the driver, here in Charlotte, NC thats done by me 3) Deliver the product to the customers homes 4) the trucks have hydraulic lift gates and the drivers get Dolly's to HAND unload the product into the house/ apt 5) each run has between 100-1200 cases thats weight between 35-45lbs I've talked to all of the drivers that deliver from our facility and they all enjoy working from them. They also seems to always have open positions, check out there website theres almost always jobs listed. If you get a job with them start a thread! American Trucker
the t/t drivers aren't otr american trucker, they deliver product from maufacturing to distribution middlemen like mckesson, owens and minor, mms/caligor and the like. that product ultimately goes to hospitals, and those are jobs for life. but a way to get in line for one is to start with the "service specialist"
Yea they deliver to us, We're Owens and Minor's worst night mare! lol We're the biggest Medical Supply company in the World. I wasn't sure if they had OTR or not thanks for the info. It's really easy to get on with Baxter at least for the straight trucks, not sure on the T/T's American Trucker
I wasn't advertising a job, I was just posting a GOOD company to work for. I just checked and they don't currently have any driver jobs open, but to find jobs you can go here: http://www.careers.baxter.com/how_to_apply/index.html If your interested in them I'd give them a call our at least keep checking there site regularly. They also have a place at that link where you can submit your resume without having a position open. American Trucker
I worked briefly for O&M in Florida and worked several years for FMC when located in Charlotte, now in Rock Hill, SC. The O&M job was back in the late 80's just as they were starting up; didn't pay much better than minimum wage and the operation was often in chaos. Much of the problem was with highly dysfunctional institutional customers (diversity issues!) - I stayed less than a month. FMC paid reasonably well but was beset by 'diversity issues' also; 'complete zoo' or 'adult daycare' better describes FMC - Charlotte. Similar work routines as Baxter drivers except FMC's core business in North America is institutional/ home kidney dialysis equipment and supplies - a growth industry unfortunately. The second management team at the Charlotte facility had just been unceremoniously fired (the best team to date) and a newly hired 'manager' who had come over from Baxter took their place. To make a longer story short, I was 'escorted' off of the premises about two weeks after 'Mr. Baxter' took over - no charges were filed but threatened. I've heard from a reliable source that 'Mr. Baxter' is long gone from FMC also. I big part of FMC's 'problem' was when someone felt 'discriminated against', 'acting racist', 'acting homophobic', etc. they would phone the 'diversity office' in Lexington, MA - U.S. home office for the German based company. The Charlotte facility was (probably still is) mostly Blacks and Gays so if anyone else with any real experience and integrity pointed out the obvious systemic dysfunction they were continually singled out. Like all jobs I've ever held, FMC was an 'educational' experience. $27 per hour? Not likely on the W2 at the end of the year. FMC would issue a statement at the end of the year telling us we 'actually made' about 25% more than what was shown on our W2s. Included were company contributions to SS, 401k, and various administrative costs. Many FMC facilities voted in union representation after I left and I hear the pressure is on at the Rock Hill facility - a primary reason for moving the facility to SC from NC. Top driver's hourly wages when I left were at $21 per hour with the average being at around $17 per hour - comparable pay to Baxter I was told. These are good jobs and are often quite physical; good health, clean driving record, criminal history and employment histories are a must(?) Depends on your race and background. Just be prepared for the requisite 'social engineering' that is often the norm anymore.
First off I'm not a recruiter! I don't work for or have any affiliation with Baxter. I pull the Baxter orders from the DC I work in. So I talk to lots of the home delivery drivers every day. O&M is just a medical supply distributer they have NO connection with Baxter. So if what ever company you worked for was run by racist that would have no baring on Baxter. Like I said in my above post I was simply putting the name of a GOOD company to drive for on the forum. ALLOT of OTR drivers would kill for a Mon-Fri 1st Shift Driving job where there home every night for $20+/hr. Take it for what it is! (my info that is) American Trucker
Hey American Trucker, I have an interview with baxter and was wondering if you still talk to the baxter drivers. I was trying to get more insight on the pay and the company. Thx.
