How many of you have OFFERED to cover a load for $1/mile to a broker or shipper to get a load going home or back to get a good paying load. Bet there is more than one out there. What's your secret? Does your truck run cheaper going downhill? Too many independents don't have a grasp on how to price their services, and THAT is a major contributor to the low rates.
Wasn't looking for flaming of brokers, nor did I say anything about honesty or trust on either side. As an example, I just got off the phone with a friend (broker) who has loads paying well over $2/mile. Trucker calls and broker asks what does he need to haul the load. Answer: $1/Mile. You would be surprised just how many times a day the broker has this conversation with the same answer. Just no cure for stupidity.
Haaa Haaaa You have a point there...Lot of bright bulbs out there..I would not haul loads for a $1 a mile...Those days are long gone for me...
It's simple... If there weren't truckers hauling for $1 per mile, there would be no brokers asking for the rate...
People tend to get desperate when your sitting in a truck stop for 3-4 days waiting for a load..it happened to me twice pulling flat bed in Texas...ended up taking a load for .88 cents a mile ( that was a little over a year ago )..i was pissed, but what could i do?...there must have been 15-20 flats sitting there too. The Brokers know it...their excuse "Hey, It at least pays for your fuel" They know when they have us by the short hairs.....today, i would tell them to ^&% my a%^....and run home empty. And i have lately, no more "paying fuel only" loads for me.
Sounds like "JoeDirt" must be a broker, cause this thread must have hit a nerve. Way back when I hauled for buck a mile but have'nt done it since don't know when.
