I think I'm going to paint on my tarps "warning bee transport" and maybe I won't get stopped for inspection. A friend of mine got pulled around back of the scales one time for level 1 inspection. He had hit a skunk earlier in the day and the truck (especially the underside) stunk to high heaven. When the trooper walked out of the scale house with his creeper and smelled the truck, he just told him to get out of there. If you ever run into a big "pile" of bees and there is no hive nearby, they are swarming (looking for a new hive). They won't hardly sting you when they are swarming unless you actually crush them. I know a guy that's a beekeeper and I've seen him go out and harvest swarms before. He will go out there unprotected, reach and grab the bees with his bare hands, rake them into a cardboard box, and never get stung. When you've got to watch out for bees is if there is a hive nearby and they are protecting it.
I went through the scale/credential check once on I-40 just east of the river and there were hundreds if not thousands of bees flying around. The woman said that the bee trucks just went through. When I stopped at the Love's a few miles down the road there were a bunch of bees there, too. Is this normal or was there a big hole in the screen?
Pulled into a Loves in KY to fuel one time with a tank load of liquid sucrose. Only one fuel lane open right next to a bee hauler. Since I was in a hurry I decided to go for it. Didn't get stung but by the time I was done fueling I had a good part of his load on my trailer.

I entered California on I-40 a few years ago. "This is weird" I thought. Instead of being out on the platform to see our BOL's the CDOT folks were inside, with a closed door, frantically waving me through. I rolled up the window quick when I noticed bees everywhere. A bee load was parked just past the scale, with several beekeepers smoking them while a guy was repairing a hole in the mesh tarp. Talk about load securement issues. My money says they didn't put him out of service.
