I think about that quite abit out here. I'd buy him a sandwich, water and a shower. Some trainers are just plain selfish. My husband's trainer swung by his home for thanksgiving. Left my husband outside in the truck and didn't even bring him a plate.
He's not just selfish: he's a sociopath. It's people like this, and the companies who would hire, that need to be outed. For the greater good.
The way you can tell the really in need from the scumbags is in what they ask you for. Someone who is actually cold/hungry/thirsty/in need of hygiene, is going to say so. Some, I will give money to, but not many. If I think they are BS Artists or addicts... Abraham is stayin' in the pocket. One asked for a shower. You know some crack head does not give a darn about hygiene, so that was a real one. Watch out, because some will be up to no good. Drivers get robbed everyday.
Do truck drivers ever carry travelers checks on them? If so, that could solve a lot of the "carrying cash" issues or having to resort to ATM's with their expensive fees.
I've seen the wife, child, husband too many times, crying and sobbing, usually with a car and the hood up. In fact, you can usually see that same couple and baby all over the USA just travelling on your money. Many times you can see them in the same rest area every weekend. Sometimes they tape notes describing their lot in life, to the restroom doors or over the urinal, begging for help. Had one guy with his wife tell me he's going to be a trucker and had been approved for company sponsored school as soon as he kicked the alcohol addiction. In the meantime, will I give him a few bucks? Answer...NO!
In Baltimore I've had the guys that come up with the cards explaining theyre deaf and need money, what's funny is if you cover your mouth or turn so that they can't read your lips they still get offended if I say something nasty. Adam
What really makes this scenario so bad is that it is genuinely disrespectful, insulting and outright fraudulent towards people who are truly deaf or very hard of hearing. People who impersonate the deaf, blind, or otherwise handicapped people should be punished accordingly.
