I wanted to ask the community because there is someone wise here . I have good friend who's running under someone authority as an owner operator , he has his own tractor/trailer , he took week off from work and while parking his truck he backed into someones regular 4wheeler . He called his agent trying to make a claim and his agent advised him that progressive ( his bobtail insurance provider )will most likely deny the claim !!! I was quite surprised , when there is a coverage under bobtail insurance , he definitely wasn't under the load or dispatch
I’ll give you an example on the fine print, my cargo insurance says it will ONLY cover the cargo loss/damages while I’m hooked under a power unit. If I drop my trailer with a load and it gets jacked, it’s not covered.
As this man says...When you read your policy, you will be unpleasantly surprised to find out what it does NOT cover.
First find out if it is actually bobtail insurance or non trucking liability. I had non trucking liability from Progressive when I was leased and they wouldn’t give me bobtail insurance.
This will satisfy your curiosity If he had actual “Bobtail” insurance then he basically SOL. Understanding the Difference Between Bobtail and Non-Trucking Liability Insurance
