    Hi all,

I've been reading the forums for a few days now and realize that now is not the best time to get into trucking, but really what industry is really thriving in this Obamanation?

I have been in construction all my life and am quite frankly tired of it, and besides, that industry is really in the can right now and for the foreseeable future. OTR Trucking is something that I always thought I would like, but really didn't seem appealing when I was married so much.

Well now I'm single again at 47, not really interested in contracting with the competition taking work at little to no profit just trying to stay alive (Hey, I can go broke sitting at the house)

I have ample savings to buy a rig outright with no financing - does being an O/O have advantages in getting hired with a company or not? Or, would I be better working through brokers?

I have many more questions but this is enough to start. Thanks in advance for your advice.

welcome to the show. In answer to your question ah ...well...being an owner op has distinct advantages and disadvantages. There is a lot of good info on the boards here and alot of o/o to get some advice from. Good luck with it and when you do start out on the road BE SAFE

I would suggest being a company driver first before you make the investment to be an O/O. You need to make sure that living the truckers life is really want you want.

I agree, start with a company on their nickle. Dont jump from job to job. You'll enjoy the life more without the head aches. Remember an O/O is a business person and you need the head as well as the iron.
