I've been lurking on this forum for months now. I am a small business owner in Michigan. As my services could be considered a luxury to most I have been hit hard by the economic downturn. Before owning my own business I had a few local delivery jobs (non-CDL), and have always dreamed about driving OTR in a big rig. Well, with my income dwindling to practically nothing, I am ready to take the plunge. I am 1 month into the process of receiving funding from the Michigan "No Worker Left Behind" program, and will hopefully be getting approved in the next two weeks. This means I will get my school paid for and wont be enslaved to any one company! I will post again once I start school. BTW, anyone know any flatbed companies currently taking newbies? ~Papa Paul

You might look at tandem. They might by the time you get out of school. They are up there close to MI
I used NWLB to get my training as well. Times are hard in Michigan. You'll prob make 30K or so your first year. And say goodbye to the family since you won't be seeing them much. This is the hardest job (mentally) I've ever had. But if you can get through the first couple of months, you'll prob be OK.
