agree with prvious post. am not driving yet but went to DMV and got a study guide for michigan (can never have to much knowledge) and they told me was pretty much same for all states. hope this is correct as i am going to be moving about an hour from the milwaukee area and hope to get permit and test in wisconsin when the time comes.

What are the sections that I need to study for the Texas CDL learner permit? At one licence office I was told section 14 (special requirements) only. At another office I was told section 14 and section 6 (combination). The school I want to attend require to get the learner permit before attending the class. I am confused here please hlp. Thanks...

I recently got my cdl here in arkansas,I studied general knowledge, air brakes, and combination vehicles. My book I think is exact same as texas cdl handbook,it will say on the sections (for all drivers trying to obtain class a cdl), (only for school bus), etc etc.The book is kinda thick as far as memorizing the whole thing but when you mark only the sections you need for a permit its really not that much.

Just my 2 cents...I'm also from Ohio and got mine,Class A with all endorsements, the practice tests in here are the very same questions you'll get at the DMV. Keep going over these practice test and you'll do just fine.I was getting 98% on most of my test.

I have been curious, is there also a written test to get your CDL or just one for the permit? In all the videos I've watched of students they only ever mention the over the road testing for their finals.

Most of the schools will provide preliminary training for the permit application and test. It will be rolled into the course. As stated above, though, check with your licensing authority to see if they have a study gguide, too. It can't hurt.
