Just pay attention, ask questions and listen. The school you go to should be working with certain companies and have recruiters coming to see you guys during school. If you have a clean record and a clean m.v.r. you will have much better choices in the companies you can go to work for as a student driver. Search your choices online and make the best informed decision that you can. Be polite but not weak. Good luck to you in your new career.

Avoid the mega-carriers if you can. I won't go into the details as they can be found in great volume all over this site. Keep an ear out for any local companies that your instructor(s) might mention, as they may have a personal connection with a local company. This would be the best possible route you could take in my opinion.

Study the CDL manual as much as you can and take all of the practice tests on this site over and over again even if you've passed them in reality. Read everything you can on this site, especially the posts in the new driver area. Practice your backing EVERY chance you get. Backing into docks and right turns are the most dangerous and tricky aspects of driving. Any monkey can hold it in the road.

Hope this helps. Good luck with it.

Check with R.E. West and Milan Express (both TN based companies)
    Averitt sometimes hires new drivers.
There's a boat manufacturer in Murfreesboro that might hire you. They deliver boats nationwide. Your instuctor might know the exact name of it. There's ProCraft & another one.

If you live near Goodlettsville, check with the transportation department of Associated Grocers.

Prime might not be a terrible option. If you haven't paid for a CDL school already, Prime offers free training if you stay with them for a year. They also have a little dedicated work around Murfreeseboro, a General Mills and a new Wal-mart account they just picked up in Shelbyville. Your in a good area for freight.

Prime also has a food grade tanker division in Chattanooga.
