I’ve read a few things about how some drivers were promised XYZ, but when they get to orientation things changed. My question, aren’t contracts signed beforehand? What’s the standard practice? Can I demand to sign a contract before jumping on a bus or stepping on to the company’s property? It just seems crazy not to do it this way. How does it usually work? Thanks in advance….
Many drivers just "assume" things without actually reading the contract. When it doesn't go like they "assumed" it would, they blame the company. You'll have to just show up to orientation, then read the contract and decide whether you want to sign it or not. It's really no big deal; it's only a driving job. Look over the contract and if you don't like it, just leave. There's 3.5 million commercial drivers in America, so each one of us is not even a "blip" on the radar.
Yeah you need to qualify first and THEN sign a contract. In a perfect world, you would hire on with a company 1 mile from your house !
