Hi, any good/solid info about a 2010 cummins engines (reliability, maintenance, fuel mileage).... Thanks...
I have one with about 10,000 hrs on motor only problem i have had was a egr valve and egr cooler replaced i think its a good reliable engine never left me stranded on the side of road had to do one regen took about 3 hrs.Engine is the best pulling motor out of the new engines as far a fuel mileage a only get 5.2 but its a long nose pete day cab pulling van local grossing 80,000.
I have one too, it's a great engine but you need to keep the EGR system very clean otherwise you'll run into lots of issues that can be difficult to track down. The original factory EGR cooler seems to be prone to cracking and leaking, after being replaced once they seem to last a lot longer. Mine had already been replaced when I got my truck and haven't had any issues with it so far. No DEF to deal with, the DPF is relatively easy to remove to have it cleaned if needed. Make sure to keep the doser injector behind the turbo cleaned and properly working, otherwise you'll run into problems when the DPF gets all sooted up. Like Poppa said it will pull like a freight train, and the jake is integrated with control of the variable geometry turbocharger which acts like an exhaust brake which gives an insane amount of retarding power. Mine is in a Cascadia with a 13 speed and 3.58 rears and I see around 6.5 to 7.5 MPG depending on my speeds and load weight. The biggest thing I like about this engine is its very easy to work on myself, at least compared to some of the other newer engines.
