I aint getting out and look on a 50 mph divided. Nor am I going to try it backing into a lot against cars determined to make me run into them. I am not trying to be negative. I just choose not to do these types of accounts. OTR is expensive. If you are very frugal you will make money. But there will be periods of time when freight is nil and no miles, you have to endure.
I wouldn't do that either in that type of situation. I was just simply stating why accidents occur. If it's safe to do so then yea get out and look. I like OTR but since I'm in the Reseves it's just not the best option for me right now. Weekly or local is what I have to deal with and if DG is all they have then I'll take it and then be put on a waiting list for something better. We all gotta start somewhere. Trust me if it wasn't for the reserves I would be all over this country. I love driving on them roads.
So I just got done with the interview and I pretty much got the job. Just have to do a second interview which is company policy and it's just probably going over background information and drug screen. The pay is about the same for Werner but I'm home nightly and off on the weekends. I'll be a route driver on a straight box for a month or two just get that under my belt and then go into a semi doing the hub to hub operations. Or I could stay where I'm at. I'm so excited because we all go to these mega carriers just to get that experience to get that local dream job and the opportunity has fallen right into my lap. I'll still have the option to go OTR if I wanted to and still get that experience but won't be considered a student. I'll be a first seat driver. I think I would have to be stupid to pass up this job for a DG account. What are you guys thoughts and questions
I think you're making the right decision. Get tired of the box truck & they move you into a semi, within the company. Great opportunity.
I think I did too. Sure it's not OTR but for the same amount of money and home everyday and off weekends not too shabby. I don't have to worry about being stuck with a company I don't like but force myself to be there just to gain experience.
You are never "Stuck" anywhere. Congratulations. You will probably be OTR soon enough when that Box truck is enough is enough. Now that is not all bad, we had a oppertunity to get into Expedited with a sleeper equipped box once. That would have been something. But probably not the hand over fist money maker we were used to running Pharms.
Thank you. Now that I have this going. Not looking to get into OTR anytime soon. I was just willing to do it to get the experience. Maybe when I'm retired from the Army in about ten years I'll go. Kids will be grown and I can just hit the open road. But for now I like being home and off on weekends.
