Hi, my husband and I have a new (2 month old) motor carrier authority. He has been a company driver with flatbeds and oilfield companies since 2008, but we’re running a dry van setup now. When it comes to dispatching ourselves, and negotiating with brokers we really don’t know what we’re doing, and it seems like everyone is trying to rip someone off. Is there any advice on an honest, dependable, hard working dispatch service you’d recommend. Thanks in advance.

If you don't know what you are doing, you have to learn how to do it. Otherwise there is no point of having your own authority. This is a very classic and common situation. Husband and wife split roles, wife dispatches, husband drives. Wife has no idea what is she doing and husband often gets upset at her. Eventually wife gets tired of dealing with BS and does not want to do it anymore. Husband gets a dispatcher only to find out that there is even more BS to deal with. Then he either dumps everything and goes back to being a company driver, or starts dispatching himself. With the freight being bad as it is now, there is no end in sight to the struggle anytime soon and your husband basically will be making below company driver salary until he decides to make that move, dispatch himself, lease to a company or go back to being a company driver.
yes. Been using them since June. They do a good job and it’s not that expensive. I do the 125.00 a week flat fee. Takes a lot of work load off of me. Merge Transit. They use FreightWaves analytics as well. You won’t find other services doing that.
Yes. I work closely with my assistant rep. He knows what I’m looking for. They aren’t about the highest rate, but the best load. They can look all day for loads, I can’t. They also do the setups for me and signing rate cons.
its worked out pretty good for me. The primary strength is they have the time to look all day, I don’t. The only time I can look is when I’m stopped. I don’t have many opportunities to just stop what I’m doing and search loads and call brokers. It is much less stressful using Merge.
