Wind caught my door just right to where it wont shut now. Am i legal to bungie it closed and head to the next state to get fixed tomorrow? Or do i just shut it down until someone can fix the hinges?
Usually those doors are designed to jump off their hinges (or however you’d describe it) during a wind gust. You can usually pull it closed till you get to the shop. It’s tough, but you can close it. I’ve had it happen and the fleet department fixed it pretty quick and easily. But in the meantime, get it closed enough to click and you’re good to roll till you can get it fixed
If the hinges or bolts in them are busted or bent or both call your dispatcher let them know. It's important those doors are stable. Both to protect the cargo and also to be in good working order. You generally do not need to leave a state to have someone come to you to replace them. After this episode is over, keep a box of spare bolts so you can replace them yourself.
Take a wooden block and stick it between the door and the truck where the hinge is at. Then carefully push on the door toward the truck applying even pressure. The door will then bend back where it belongs and latch properly. Just work it a little at a time till you get it.
