I'm looking to get my DOT physical in San diego. Need to pay out of pocket so hoping someone can let me know where to go that doesn't cost too much. Thank you for your help.

CVS Pharmacy is pretty cheap. Don't know of any that are cheaper.

    How old are you ?
Did you check your blood pressure to make sure you will pass ?
Has to be under 140/90 if not you may be like me an obese old man.

I am curious. I went to give blood the other day and my BP was 142/90. I was kind of shocked that I was stage I hypertension for God's sakes...lol There could have been a few reasons for it.....have some stress going on, not hydrated. etc. I'm maybe a little overweight but I powerlift and work out pretty regularly. I wouldn't consider myself obese by any measure. However I plan on going to school in Sept and getting my DOT medical card soon........Will this shut me down from getting a CDL? I did see that it might just only give me a 1 year certification. TIA

148/95 will get you a 3 month card. That gives you enough time to get in to see a doctor and get meds. The problem is the doctor won’t have any appointments for 4 months so you’ll have to spend another $90 to get another 3 month card. Then you’ll finally see the doctor and get meds but you’ll have to see him every month for 3 months. So… another $90 for another 3 month card. Then the doctor will sign off that you are good but in 2 months your card expires again so $90 more dollars to get a 1 year card. Ask me how I know this!

I recommend if you know it’s high start talking to a doctor before you’re 2 weeks out.

Yes if it’s over 140/90 you won’t get a regular 2 year card. You should get your own home blood pressure monitor and check it a couple times a day. Lose weight drink more water cut down on the sodium etc etc

So just an update. I did a quick turnaround the last two weeks.....no caffeine or soda whatsover......lots and lots of water, no snacks, tried to stay away from anything with sodium and was able to get my BP down to 137/87 for my MED Card test. Good for 2 years. I'm going to try and keep away from the soda from now on anyway. Thanks everybody

Thanks for letting us know how it turned out. High BP is an ongoing problem with a lot of our members.

And that it is. And I will throw this Molotov flaming device into the mix.
It is only a problem because the authorities keep moving the target, with the blessing of the medical/pharmaceutical/insurance industrial complex. Not because of any safety related issues.
