    Hi everyone,

I would like to gain some knowledge about these emission systems. How would the mto/dot/epa know about a bypassed dpf/egr system if the filter gets hollowed? I've heard about dirty exhaust tips but yet again every truck I see has very dirty tips.

Mine are perfectly clean after two years.
One of our guys had his deleted. It caught my attention when he moved the truck, I noticed a bit of black smoke come out. When I asked if his truck had a problem he said he just got it deleted.
After that his exhaust pipe tips turned black.
British Columbia a few years ago was experimenting with an overhead sniffer device that was able to accurately detect trucks with high emissions. Don’t know if they ever put it into production.

    KB3MMX Thanks this.

Any knowledgeable inspector who’s not deaf should be able to tell by sound that a dpf or muffler is hollowed out... I don’t know who’s enforcing it in Canada judging by how many straight piped trucks that have a def tank hanging on them still indicating it was never a glider

fargonaz, uncleal13 and KB3MMX Thank this.

So it's just that easy to get caught with them on trucks? Also what are the chances of people getting caught

Unless you add a muffler or internal muffler in the pipe it’s way louder than normal .. I know of a few with deletes from years ago that still run them but they are having issues getting someone to do their annual safety on the truck due to missing parts..

It's possible to have dummy straight stacks that aren't connected to the exhaust. Lots of chrome shops put them on but keep the emissions intact.

True but if it’s roaring so loud you here it 1/8 mile away I’d suspect it’s deleted ... PS it sure looks strange in minus 30 seeing a shiny Pete come at you with only one stack blowing steam lol

Even though this subject is strictly "verboten" on this forum, the practice is pretty common around here (Idaho), especially among local guys (grain haulers, hay haulers, etc). I know one of the shop owners personally, and he's not heard of anyone getting caught. It usually starts with a guy with a Cummins coming into the shop because he's getting 3 mpg......

DPF system should be cleaned at the 400,000 mile interval. Regeneration system should be in working order throughout the period. Lack of maintenance to the DPF can result in a costly aftermarket treatment bill.
