Can someone please point me in the right direction as far as everything I need to obtain/keeps on file for a new driver? I have experience with driver files but it seem like I am drawing a blank now that it is coming to my own authority!

You need everything, application, work history, run driving history, drug and alcohal forms, and like MNdriver said print the manual.

Get the 'desk copy' of the FMCSR from J J Keller, it has all the different sections of the 49 CFR with guideance.

    Get familiar w/ Parts 40, 376,379, 382, 383, 387, 390, 391, 392, 393, 395, and 396.

Part 391 should answer most of your qualification file questions but will refer to some of the other parts...

Why spend the money on JJ Keller?

The ETA manual that the FMCSA publishes has ALL the documents you HAVE to have on a driver. Complete with samples you can use. It also compiles ALL parts of what you need to operate as a Motor Carrier for all the stuff you need. From RODS, to driver files, maintenance, drug testing etc.

    And best of all....

Its FREE. Other than you supplying the paper/ink to print it.
