I was just looking at a Google image from the employment section of a 1996 newspaper. Here are the pay rates for drivers. Averitt .28-.34 Covnenant Teams 100k Trainer 70k per year CFI .32 Harold Ives .28 Hornady up to .36 JB Hunt up to .34 I think we've found the reason for a shortage of QUALITY drivers. According to Social Security, the average wage in 1996 was 25,913.90. In 2012, it was 44,321.67. It doesn't appear the truck driver's wages have kept up at all with the national average. http://news.google.com/newspapers?n...mceAAAAIBAJ&sjid=9cgEAAAAIBAJ&pg=2666,3844707
Yep nothing has changed! In fact doesn't Swift start there guys at like .24 CPM or some crap like that? By the looks of it driver wage has gone up what, maybe a couple pennies per mile? That is so sad!
I know when i started in 1992 at victory express i got .19 a mile now you see students get .36 to start
no doubt and with so many thinking they can make big bucks still they have new lining up as the old walk out realizing how much they really loss I mean be gone from family for an extra few hundred bucks heck thats spent on the extra to keep you feed separate from the family. They come from a 30000-35000/yr to the 40000-45000/yr it sounds great to them till you realize you spent all that time away cramped in a truck for only 5 grand more than staying at home after you spent an extra 100+ a week on personal needs in the truck.
that's with them paying the schooling right? I started at .24 since they paid the school stayed 4 months got a job else where at .36 and I paid off the school and came out way ahead of what the same miles would have been had I stayed.
Exactly. To just keep up with national inflation, those jobs would have to be paying 56-60 cpm these days.
It's supply and demand. Simple laws of economics. You flood an permanently anemic economy with labor, you will maintain a stagnant labor rate. Want better wages? Hope for more more trucking demand (better economy and actually more truck loads moving, not more demand to replace high driver fail/quit rates), and fewer people who need to or want to work ... aint neither one gonna happen any time soon
This USA is gret... In Rusia they pay me 10 cent mile Her I mek 25 with Swft. I make gret mony drive track in US.
