So, I just received an interesting phone call from Chris Holland today. He was going to re-tune a Cobra 29lx that DTB did for me. When DTB did the radio, he told me that he replaced the final with a 2SC1969 and did a Schottky diode upgrade. Well, Chris confirmed today that none of those had been done. Needless to say, I'm pretty f*****g pissed! I will be sure to stop in and have a "discussion" with DTB next time I pass thru there.
I'm not so sure I trust Chris's evaluation of David Bupps work. Chris might just be trying to make a quick buck. Chris is a good repairman but Dave is a better tuner.
But actual missing parts? You cant just bs someone on something like that. Also, I've never seen any of their work on a scope, so I dont know who's is cleaner, but I can tell you that Chris has a better receive, even tho its noisy
It's too late for that. He has the radio already. Only thing I can do now is look for fresh solder joints I guess
It would’ve been really easy for you to have popped the cover and looked inside, before you sent the radio to Chris. Usually the Shottky diodes for the receiver upgrade, are blue in color. It wouldn’t have been too hard to verify the part number on the transmit final, even if you had to use a magnifying glass. But unfortunately like you said, it’s too late now. Just curious, were you not happy with DTB’s work? As far as the tune goes?
