I don't know about you but if I run or of hours 30 minutes from the house that ####### truck is getting parked and momma is coming to pick me up. That's there its just down right ignorant ######## excuse right there. If you can't get a ride, maybe you should get some friends with vehicles
That sure does sound convenient for whoever has to come pick you up. They will say why don't you just drive the #### thing home? You would rather tell your chauffeur that the government knows best that you are obviously incapable of navigating that truck home and will be punished if you do so anyway. Get real.
Elogs are becoming more and more dangerous out there. I've never used them so I'm not the best one to ask on how they work. But last week I was running with this guy up in mountains of vt. I told him I was stopping for coffee and to check the load b4 we go into the switch back mountain area. He says he can't b/c he didn't have the time on his e log. So I stop get coffee check load. 30 mins later he's on the side of the road with half his load laying next to the truck. Not saying if he stopped with me the load wouldn't have fallen off but I don't see how e logs are safer if they make guys push in traffic times or bad road conditions. 15 min break can save a life. What happens if you run over your drive time? You get a ticket or what?
I am being real, my wife wouldnt give a #### and my friends would be understanding. So you can take your feeling sorry for yourself and move along.
I agree with large car, shorts cut will be made and safety neglected. Before elogs were mentioned at 2-3 a.m you see trucks swerving all over the place. Now guy have elogs and being persuaded to run odd hours they are not used to running is just not right. I like the old split sleeper, run until you get tired take a two hour nap or three and roll on. Miss all the traffic, I guess with elogs you just sit in downtown and hope you get 20 miles farther in two hours. Elogs is just a miserable mess. Truckers used to be truckers and known for not following rules. How did this new generation go wrong. Seriously in the 70-80's-90's when the economy was flat booming it didn't do that based on truckers following rules. I am a third generation driver and I live by pap's law; all rules are meant to be bent, not broken. New drivers and truck homesteaders are all you see buying into the elogs, the newbies dont know any better and the homesteaders could care less cause the rolling home is all they have.
Well you must know the best way to do things with your less than 1 year experience. Wonder how your friends and wife will feel having to come pick you up from your truck as time goes on. I guess if your company is only getting you home with every season change then it shouldn't be that big of a deal. Not to mention you may be leaving the truck in an area that is less than desirable to leave an expensive piece of equipment unattended. Unless you are driving a truck that you couldn't pay someone to steal, that is ... We could even look at the legality of the situation. If you drove it home, you would be breaking the law, yes. A little bit. If you get your wife/friend to come pick you up, how much rest will you have had in you 10 hours off duty? I bet you would of rested better had you stayed in the truck and slept. Here we go again, why is it so difficult for people to be allowed to just use their heads???
There's no freedom in that either since sooner or later we will all be on elogs. It's not about my freedom and my personal responsibility rather the freedoms of all of us. The post was not about me but rather all of us. I'm at the top of the pay scale as far as money goes but like I said before, there's more important things than money. If you're not bothered by the government's overreach not just in trucking but every other aspect of your life then I guess we just won't agree.
Why is it you can't use yours and stop making excuses for why you can't park someplace close and call for a ride? Or is it you have no friends, and your wife hates you so much that she won't come get you? See where I'm going? Your sarcasm begets sarcasm.
