I think the first question would be: How long have you been an "ex-con"? Depending on the conviction, companies like to see 7 to 10 to 15 years time span since conviction. If it was a sex crime or theft, a lot won't hire you regardless of time.
Are you on parole? If so what are the conditions? I am assuming you spent the last 20 or so years in prison right? Depending on the answers there are a few different options.
I would have no problem hiring someone out who did his time for murder as it rarely is a crime that is a recurring crime. Six months from now, I can team with you if you do not find anything before that. You may find that working in trucking and being a murderer is like an alcoholic working for Budweiser. You will be tempted.
