If I was to go with one of the BIG national companies to get my 1-2 years experience, what is the best way to leave that company on good terms? Do I go into it letting them know I only plan on staying for one year, or do I wait and have an excuse after 1-2 years?
There may be "50 Ways To Leave Your Lover," but there is really only one way to leave a job on good terms. For your own sake, keep your mouth shut about your future plans. Once you get to the point that you are ready to move on, go ahead and give them two weeks notice. But be prepared to have them tell you that they want you gone right now.
That's the part I don't understand. People talk about DACS/USIS whatever it is and what companies put on it. Well, if you get your new job secured BEFORE leaving your existing company, how on earth can they possibly blackball you? I have never left a current job to look for another job. I have always secured next job before leaving current. Just wondering...or is that wandering?
That is often hard to do in trucking. Several times I have put in APS and tried to get a interview only to get 8 or 9 states away and get a call... can you pop in tomorrow for an interview? No; I told you when I put in that AP I am a OTR driver and explained to you why I wanted interviewed when I was in your office.
