Do they still make and sell GALAXY CB's if so where can I get one I always thought they were the best out there I don't see them at the truck stops any more though.
Hmmmmmm, honest question? Or self appointed investigator for the FCC looking to close another CB shop? How would we know?
I wanted a smaller footprint SSB and got a Uniden 980, which I have found that I like, the Galaxy 979 was my other choice, but I have never tried one. I think they still make them, do a search, and add model numbers.
Galaxy Radios are all over the internet...Not hard to find at all. Google is your best friend for finding anything CB... By the way, not all Galaxy radios are illegals... The 919,929,939,949,959, and 979 are all FCC Certified...
The 3 digit series like JJD mentioned should still be found in truck stops. I know the Oak Grove MO Petro sells them in there. Overpriced of course. What you WON'T find in truck stops are the 2 digit series Galaxys. Because they're not certified for CB use. Galaxys are NOT the best out there, just most think they are....until they die a short death....but they're pretty to look at.
Is the DX98VHP 10 meter GALAXY a good buy at 428.00 it has 1 year warranty plus you can buy extended warranty free shipping
I don't think so. That is what they sell for, but I think they are way over priced for what you get. They get the big price because the radios are illegal to use on 11 meters. They must be converted to work on 11 meters (CB) and should be realigned as well which most shops don't do or do but don't have the right equipment to get right. Some do get them pretty close, probably close enough for CB. I've got three like I said. I didn't pay over $200 for any of them. I had them all gone thru by a competent tech. They are known to quit working because of bad solder joints mainly. Not hard to fix, but sometimes hard to find. My advice is keep your ears open and buy a used one then have it gone thru by a good tech. I did the Schottky Diode mod to all of mine; Connex 3300HP, Galaxy 88, Mirage 9900. They work great, even on sideband if you let them warm up. One of the loudest, best talking, trouble free radios out there is an old Cobra 29. With just a few modifications, done by a good tech, everybody will think you are talking on a "big" radio... like the dual final Galaxy.
This. A well tuned 29 into a little 2 pill will walk all over these over priced #### box imports. Unless of course you want ssb.
