What about other methods/tools for self-defense? Mace? Other? Do you carry and/or have anything else available other than a knife or gun?

There are so many restrictive laws on guns it is not really worth it
to carry one in your truck even with a carry permit unless you
stay in one state. I would suggest you carry a weopen that is not one.
I pull a flat bed, and the bar I use to tighten my staps is a good one.
Another good one is a baseball bat, but have a softball with it
and a good story and your all set. If I had a gun in my truck I
would be more worried about the cops than anyone else. Many
    tools are convenient also.

I love the trained dog idea. Bullhaulerswife is who said thats what her hubby opted for. A trained dog is very reliable, even driving local, I would love to have one with me. I do go into some undesireable areas at night.

My instructor says that tou can carry a knife with a blade less than 4" in length ONLY if it can not be opened by one hand even if it is not a switch blade or butterfly knife. Some states honor CWP's from other states, but it is illegal to carry a firearm of any kind in a commercial vehicle. Haha. my instructor said that he carried a lead filled tire beater in the truck with him. :biggrin_25513:

That may be accurate, but I would not recommend taking legal advice from your instructor unless he is a licensed attorney.

One thing to consider on the gun issue is not just if it is illegal or not.

Most companies have policies that prohibit it.

There IS NO Federal Law restricting possession of a Licensed Firearm in a Commercial Vehicle.
