Not sure where to put this thread... I just got a letter this afternoon about my background check for the HAZMAT saying that I am approved to get my endorsement. I leave tomorrow to go for orientation at a new job in Nebraska. I live in Louisiana. Can I get my endorsement in another state or do I have to wait to come back home? ...and is there a time frame that I have to aquire the endorsement once I get the letter of approval? Thank you :0)
I believe if you move, you have to re test. So i would imagine youd have to be in the state where you are licensed.
Your best bet is to just ask the DMV. I am stationed at Ft. Polk, will be testing soon, and know that Louisiana says all testing must be done at the same place. I'm not sure another state would put an endorsement on another state's license.
You have to get it your state , not sure on time call while you travel you should have at least 30 days .
The haz mat endorsement is tied to your license but you only have to undergo the haz mat background check through DHS once. Keep the letter that the DHS sends you and if you get a new license in another state you will have to take the haz mat exam but the background check is still good.
Background check will have to be done if the last time you were fingerprinted was over 1 year ago. It will also have to be done when your current DL comes up for renewal . The letter you receive in the mail is just a courtesy letter. When you have the letter in hand it is informing you that your new finger prints are now in the national data base. You must take your DOT physical long form and your birth certificate and SS card to DMV . Pay them some more money and take Haz Mat test again . This is nothing more than a way to generate more money from the hard working tax payers.
it's to make sure you're not friends with bin laden. besides database. i didn't have to go through all that crap when i renewed my license 3 months ago. only had to retest.
The last I heard.. Hazmat does not transfer from state to state. While the regs are federal, there are states that have and test at their higher standards.
I hope I get more than 30 days. I won't be able to get home for a couple months at best. Think I'd have to pay for fingerprinting again??
The only thing that had a time frame on it when I got mine was the test you take through your state. I took test first then got the background done, and when I went to DMV to get the endorsement on my licsense I forgot my birth certificate in the truck, and they told me I had a month or I would have to retake the test. There was no time frame on the background though. The only thing you can do out of state is the background check because they will issue you a new licsense when you get the endorsement put on.
