I have been on another thread and I'm now really curious about something .. What are the rules for taking HT .. My wife and I plan on driving as CO team drives in the future and Con-Way TL is one of our top choices.... With that said---- Theoretical question... if we stayed out for 12 weeks what would be the max amount of days in a row we could take off ?.. side note: we plan on living in the truck .. HT for us will be whenever we're not driving ......But we would like a nice break on ocassion We like to fly down to MX sometimes for7-10 days.. once a yr ... twice a yr would be wonderful Thanks ....
worked for conway and asked them that specific question...i prefer to stay out longer and take longer periods of ht as well... never really gave me a straight answer...kind of up to your fm. the REAL question is...how much ht can i take without having to clean out the truck and get reassigned. would think that they would work with you for 7-10 days a couple times a year, but most i took was 7 days (i always end up with way more ht days than ill ever take...think i was out around 12 or 13 weeks when i took 7 days lol)

Thanks .. Apparently this is one of those things I will need to get in writing .. I just can't feel comfortable with how the FM feels that day...as for cleaning out the truck .. not sure how I feel about that idea..
Thanks, But I want to know what is the rule on staying out an extended time and banking days so we can take off on vacation 7-10 days once or twice a year ... We wont actaully have a home per say... HT is a mute point for us.. HomeTime will be anytime we are not driving lol ... So really we dont need HT we need vacation time .. and you dont just fly down to Playa del Carmen, MX for 2-3 days .. just sayin ..
At most companies it would be 7 days max HT before having to clean out the truck. Their way of thinking is the truck sitting any longer than that is a drain on finances, There is always another driver waiting to get a truck, so they can't afford to have one just sitting. As to your situation. They would probably be ok with the 10 days off every 6 months, but you would have to clean the truck out at one of the terminals and put in storage. Then when you came back, they would assign another truck to you. Being as there are two of you, space limitations would preclude you from having a lot on the truck in the first place. As others have stated, i'd get something in writing from someone other than a recruiter. They use disappearing ink on stuff the write.

I don't by the theory that the truck would sit any longer...Here's why.. actually if you take 2 days off its really more like 3 right? the dont count you getting home on the 1st day, say its noon friday then you have Saturday and Sunday and you leave out say Monday at 5 am ... You have been idle for nearly 3 full days .. now do that every other week for 12 weeks and the truck has been down a total of 18 days ..k Now if you stayed on the truck for 12 weeks and wanted to take all your days using the same schedule the truck would only be down 13 days in that same 12 week period.. Seems the company just save 5 days of the truck being down.. YES ?
As I have been learning it sounds like most places, on average, are 1 day off for every 7 as someone stated above. However, if you work say 6 weeks straight OTR that doesn't mean you will necessarily get 6 days off in a row when you get your HT. It sounds like the max HT is usually 3-4 days tops. I'm curious also about some vacation HT once or twice a year so you can actually travel somewhere and relax. I'm doing the same thing as you OP minus the wife so my home will also be my truck. It would be great to take 7-15 days off once or twice a year to go to Puerto Rico, Europe or somewhere. Ill be following along with this thread.
