I have read the HOS article and sort of confused.. I read the 34 hour reset part,the 11 hr day max, and no more than 60 hours in 7 days thing/ or 70 hrs in 8 days... So does it mean I can legally work 25 hrs total for Sat & Sunday? Since I work 35 hrs at my existing job. 60-35= 25 If I have an existing job(Non-cdl) working 35 hrs a week(Mon-Fri), how many hours could I legally drive on weekends?
1st, it would be 70 hours in 8 days if you are working weekend, as the carrier is working all 7 days. Let's expand this out to explain. Day 1: 7 Day 2: +7 = 14 Day 3: +7 =21 Day 4: +7 =28 Day 5: +7 =35 Day 6: +12 = 47 (just making up a number, it could be anything from 1 minute to 24 hours.) Day 7: +12 = 59 Day 8: +7 = 66 Day 9: +7, -7 = 66 (The -7 is last Monday falling off) Day 10: +7, -7 = 66 Day 11:: +7, -7 = 66 Day 12: : +7, -7 = 66 Day 13 +11, -7 (Saturday.) = 70 (you would run out of hours before the 12 hour shift is over, assuming a 12 hour shift. Day 14: Have to take a reset, as there is no time available.
60 hour 7 days and 70 hours 8 days are 2 different regulations. If 1 applies, the other doesn't. In the vast majority of operations, 70/8 will apply. If your company does not run 7 days a week, then the 60/7 rule applies. So in your case, you would be able to drive 35 hours, less your on duty time. The next weekend you probably wouldn't be able to do that much
Would you even be able to drive if there’s never a reset? The working our would be fine as you could technically work what he’d want.. but I don’t think it would work for drive time
Yes one can. Let's use my numbers from above, but assume a "normal" 8 hour work day on the weekend... Days 1-5: = 35 Day 6: +8 = 43 Day 7: +8 = 51 Day 8: +7 = 58 Day 9-12: +7, -7 = 58 Day 13 +8 , -7 = 59 Day 14: +8, -8 = 59 Day 15: +7, -8 = 58 etc.... P.S. I missed the Saturday of -7 hours, so I edited the above post.
Ok so the first Saturday & Sunday , I can work 12 hrs each day, and the next weekend Saturday I can work 11 hrs and take off that Sunday? Correct?
If you do the 35 in 4 days ,say mon to thursday and reset on Fri, then you would have up to 70 hrs available to work on the weekend.
Thanks.I get that, we normally work Mon - Friday - 7hrs per day each total 35 hrs. Maybe I'll look into dump truck work with the spare time I have.. I just was trying to understand how these hours will work
