"Inactive status"?

I was reviewing my MCS 150 and it says that my status is inactive, also it says no insurance on file. What does this mean and how do I fix it.

 

It means you have to update your US-DOT registration every two years. If you have already sometimes the DOT is a little slow updating their data base when the dates are close. All the info you need is on these links.

If you are a hazmat carrier then you fill out MCS-150B.

 

It might also mean your insurance carrier hasn't filed the 91X with FMCSA certifying you have met the insurance requirement. That has to come directly from the insurance carrier. It's not something the motor carrier can file. Your agent (or you if you bought direct) can contact the underwriter and see what's up with that. Also remember to request a signed copy of the MCS90 from the agent or carrier. You are required to have a copy on file and it will be one of the first things the auditor asks for in a Compliance or New Entrant Review (aka DOT audit).

We see a lot of this from researching companies and it's usually the insurance company hasn't updated. You need to contact them.

 

Thanks, and also; even though you are only required to file the MCS150 or 150B biennially (every two years), I found it best practice to review and file annually. It's free and fast online. For some reason known only to God, sometimes the information on my company would change from my last filing. I don't know why or how. Maybe when they updated or something but I'd review and my mileage or number of power units or what I hauled would be different than what I filed. Filing annually just prior to renewing my IRP kept the info accurate and kept me in the right peer group for the old SEA Scores (now CSA) and ISS-D (Inspection Selection System). Insurance carriers (for rates) and shippers (for safety status) look at that info. Good to keep an eye on the ever changing Federal Database.

They shouldn't -- it is part of having a commercial policy. You may also need your insurance company to file another certificate of insurance with your state (in California it is called a MCP 65 M)
