So, i noticed the last time hubby was home that his clothes are starting to smell like a diesel truck. :( I know it goes with the job and all, but i really dislike some smells. I actually used fabric softener sheets, which i generally do not use, and i double washed the clothes in tide. No luck. Any suggestions or am i stuck with the smell?

Usually one piece gets fuel on it, and when you wash it with other clothes well it gets on them too. If he separates the one with fuel from the others they will not be affected. I still have a pair of jeans out in garage, been there since summer. I washed them a couple times, smells like fuel.

When I worked as a diesel mechanic I would get grease, oil, fuel, etc on my clothes. I found by putting a small amount of Goop brand hand cleaner in with the laundry detergent, plus spot treating any very soiled area on my clothing it would clean them well and take out the smell associated with it. Make sure you get the regular Goop without the abrasives in it, it dissolves well in the wash, the one with abrasives will leave grit in your machine and can damage the clothing. Also, wash his clothing separate from the rest of the laundry to keep from spreading the oil around. As said above, if he gets fuel on one piece of clothing, keep it seperate and hand wash it with Goop and dish detergent before putting it thru the regular laundry.

I'm not sure if it would help, but you might try dumping a cup of baking soda in with it.

Baking soda 1/2 to 1 cup in the wash tub along with your detergent. Fill with water. Add clothes. Pour 1 to 2 cups white vinegar into the fabric softener dispenser. Wash on heavy cycle. Diesel is a greasy mess, but this works for us.

Try a laundry booster along with Tide. Also let the clothes soak for a couple hrs.

give him a bag to put the clothes in so he doesn't walk on them with dirty (fuel) shoes.

never had this problem ,except when I had a nozzle spit at me, very rare.

he needs to be more careful and put ALL the fuel in the tank.lol j/k

maybe it isn't the clothes but the shoes smelling up the house? just a thought.

asked the wifey and she says the Gain I use takes care of my smelly clothes.

fifth wheel grease will is another matter.

those stains I think are forever. lol

That is right. Lets just do stuff to ruin it for others that all that they have to clean their clothes is on the road. And many drivers out here do dress nice and like to take care of themselves. Kind of reminds of those that like to use the squeegee to wash their truck in a fuel island. Just as long as they are happy, heck with anyone else, and people ask what happened in this industry over the years.
