I will be attending a school in another state than where I live and I am curious how they handle that. Do they issue a CDL to someone that lives in another state? Do you have to go take the test in your home state? Do you have to transfer it after you get it?

From what I have read of others on here doing this, you would be returned to your home state with the completed road test to obtain your CDL. I'm sure there are some who have done this that will be in with some more certain answers though!

The majority of schools and training companies, get you tested in their state.

You can transfer your CDL afterwards. And yes, you do pay the cost twice.

    Lilbit Thanks this.

I'm glad I got mine in the state I lived in. What a headache!
