First off love this board lots of good info. I'm 47 and am looking to get into the industry. I had a job for over 20+ years when I decided to take the plunge and do my own restaurant with a partner. After two years the partnership just didn't work out and I was suddenly unemployed with even less income than running a restaurant. Lol. The last two years I have been taking care of my disabled son and Mama went out and found work as I couldn't get a call back from anyone since I had limited "job skills" and lately mama has been very unhappy at her work as they treat her like crap and I couldn't agree more. Fast forward two years to today and what I think is a very good opportunity has come my way to possibly drive for Fedex Freight. I have never done anything close to this and am more than a little nervous but this I believe is a great opportunity for me and my family. Wish me luck.
And good luck to you as well hoss. We're both kind of in the same boat except I'm older and prolly fatter.
Thanks hoss. Like I said I had well over 20 years in one field easy desk job type and was pretty much maxed out where I was. Then there was the BBQ bug that bit me. That was it for job experience. The Ops manager was very excited when he talked to me. He seemed impressed I got my CDL permit and endorsements with in a week. I'm the kind of guy he is looking for. Someone who will actually show up and work. I get that most will be dock work for quite a while but that's ok with me. I look at it this way. I've got a dock job that I get paid to drive to. Get my feet wet and see what happens.
Good luck. This is the 2nd thread I’ve read by someone with no trucking experience going to work for FedEx. What gives with them? Really low standards over there?
