@Cattleman84 Do you know if 20 west out of Idaho Falls around craters of the moon to 93 down to Twin Falls a truck friendly and legal route? Wife wants to go see the craters figured if it is a good route we could go that way back home thanks.

Yeah that is a truck friendly route and legal... Its pretty curvy through the lava beds with several blind corners and hills so be careful of oncoming traffic trying to pass when they shouldnt be, especially if its good weather. People like to think they can go 100 mph out there sometimes. Its been a few years since ive been out that way, but last I remember that was all pretty good road too.

US 20/26 west from Idahofalls to Arco, the following pic is a good way to bypass the town of Arco if you dont have need to go into town. It's a dirt road but very well maintained. Then back onto US 20/26 to Craters (Probably don't want to pull a truck w/trailer into the visitors center off US 20/26, there is a pull out just west of the visitors center road on the south side of US 20/26... See second pic). Continue on US 20/26 to Shoshone to grab US 93 to Twin.

It's really a pretty cool place to go visit... Especially if you have the time to go hike the trails.

Thanks man I knew you you would have the information we needed. I went that way once years ago and it was very cool. Now the wifie wants to see it.

Of course I do the Idaho Falls trip twice weekly so get the Bipolar ID weather. We will be doing this in late spring summer.

I second @Cattleman84's opinion, pretty good road especially after they "fixed" Tom Cat hill. Maintenance in winter can be a little spotty, as expected.

If you ever need to go north towards Mackey / Challis / Salmon, be aware that 93 from Arco to a little past Mackay has the worst case of frost heave whoop-de-dos you'll encounter anywhere, and you'll be doing about 40 mph trying to hold things together......

Brought a load of hay down from Howe last week — be advised that a Leo has been hanging out between Richfield and Carey, and he has been making a pretty good living from what I understand.
