just got a job in long beach ca. I run from long beach to oxnard ca. 82 miles one way. total miles 164. sometimes i run two tripps the same day. do i need to keep a log book ?
Legally no, you're within 100 air miles of your terminal/home base, but your company may require you to.
I agree. LEGALLY no... but in California, you bet I would. Just to show 'em. You know they will ask, and it just would save the hassle.
You could call CHP and ask if there's any state laws about it. If there's not, bookmark the page in the green book and hand it to them. That's just me though, I don't like to lay down for cops that make laws up.

California's regulations (for intrastate drivers) regarding the 100 air-mile radius exemption are identical to the federal regulation except that you are not limited to 11 hours of driving (because California allows 12 driving hours). Just remember the other requirements: 1. Return to your normal work reporting location and relieved of duty within 12 hours. 2. Your motor carrier must maintain time records for six months
Absolute non-tucker here, but even if the state and company don't require it, I'd keep one just to log experience...that way you A) Stay in practice of keeping a proper log, and B) have something to show a prospective future employer.
Let's see....You'll run up 710 to the 5 to the 101 (No through trucks over three axles allowed on the 1) to either 5th St. or Oxnard Bld.....Or run up the 110 to the 101.....The only coop you'll encounter is "Coneajo" on 101 W/O Newbury Park just before Camarillo...... There is a W/B side and and an E/B side of the coop...... If you are an intrastate driver running in a 100 mile radius, you won't have to maintain a log book....But you will be required to fill out and carry a Pre-trip inspection book...... Just be prepared for nasty traffic on the 101 between the 405 and the 23..... Do not run up the 405 and run through the South Bay Curve......That drive will turn into a career....
