Was looking at getting a truck to tow 5th wheel rv's but also wanting to have sleep area behind driver for 2 tall people. Only option we have seen is the Dodge megacab. Though then stuck with a 6.5' bed which heard even with a sliding 5th wheel hitch can have problems with some rv's. Any thoughts?
Get a vehicle designed for what you want. Running teams like that is nit the best way to live. Also, if not done correctly, is not legal.
Was planning on using a company called wave press. Getting insurance staying under cdl. What do I need to be aware of on legal?
I used one. A2007 Megacab dually. Put a mattress in the back. Did not have a sliding fifth wheel. Just mounted it a couple inches further back. No issues in handling and still had my big fuel tank in the front of the box. No clearance issues with any new trailer I delivered.
The team mate can't sit in the front seat for a couple reasons. HOS states he has to be on-duty or in the sleeper when the vehicle is moving. And to comply with sleeper requirements the front seat has to be removed anyway to make the back seat a legal sleeper. It can be done, but it's not a simple as two guys jumping in a pickup and driving until they fall asleep.
A couple of questions. What is Wave Press , and what would you be using them for ? Is the sleeping area for a married couple ? How are you going to contact the RV manufacturer ?
So you will be running under their numbers and under their insurance. I started out like that. I purchased a trailer and went out. It is difficult to generate revenue in that case. Also pulling RV’s makes for a bigger challenge. The reason is only running one way or empty back to the starting point is costly both in time and money. Will you be able to put these RV’s on a trailer? Drop the trailers the load back to the starting point? Dollar per mile has direct impact on your success probably. You can see if you guys enjoy doing this by leasing on with them. That was my best reason for leasing onto someone.
