Guys living in their rigs, how are you getting interweb services on the road? Of course we try to park near wifi signals but that doesn’t always work. I have the Netflix app that allows me to download content when I’m near wifi to play later, but having my own smart hub type device would be better.

Here in Alberta Telus offers their smart hub as a solution to wifi at the cabin or remote location, but it says it’s a fixed service. Has anyone had success using it in the road where your in a different place every night?

There’s gotta be a solution out there...just not sure what it is. Help me out guys.

 

I run the states mostly so I have both a us and Canadian cell phone. The US phone is unlimited data on both sides of the border but can only be used as a hotspot in the states. The Canadian phone has some data plan can't remember what it is but it can also be used as a hotspot

 

Who offers this? What's it cost?

 

My us phone is Verizon. 102 us
Canada phone is bell. I think around 120 Canadian. I just updated my plan and honestly can't remember what it is for sure. Both plans I own the phone

 

I use my Verizon unlimited exclusively. $83/m, but it's limited to 500MB at full speed per day in Canada if I remember correctly. What I end up doing is rooting my phone and bypassing the hotspot limits. The newer Android has required me to tether to a VPN, but I get full speeds for way more than 15GB.

I have Sprint's Open World plan.Unlimited talk,text and data in the US. Unlimited talk and text in Canaba. 5 gb data in Canada. 50 gb data hotspot in US and if you go over the 50 it just throttles the speed back. Cost is around $75 US per month.

How do you guys keep getting US plans as a canadian? Don't you need a US residency or address to get a US phone?

 

Nope. They accept us, you just gotta be tricky with it is all.

I used to have 2 phones one US and one Canadian. I got my US phone at the TA in Ontario, used their address and their postal code to set up the account. Girl behind the desk helped with that and bing bang boom. I had a phone.

Major Pain is remembering all the info, and the great thing is if something goes wrong they can't really come after you since your not a US resident. Verizon tried it with me. They told me if I stopped paying my plan would just end, 6 months later they were coming after me for $600+. I told them what they had said to me, they changed their mind and said that's no longer the case pay us, I said I'm a Canadian good luck. They sent it to collections.

Told them I don't know that person who lives in the US, I know someone by that name that lives in Canada. Never got contacted again. Didn't even show up on my credit history.

 

The girl at Verizon came up with an address for me then added a 'billing' address.
