i never go over 65 mph.i wouldn't worry if it's been always like that but i used to get 6.5 - 7 mpg loaded. some say it could be a "winter fuel blend" issue...or something like that...not sure what it's really called.i doubt it anyway.i wouldn't be the only one having this problem then '
I'm ashamed. I can't believe you experienced owner ops actually think running faster saves fuel. Also keep in mind that states that are higher in altitude are going to burn more fuel then the southern states. Also most southern states are a lot flatter and don't have the big hills to climb. If you drive under 65mph you will notice a substantial difference in fuel consumption. If you don't you need to go back to O/O school and learn how to calculate your fuel consumption!
I'll bet that article that the OP is talking about is the new road that opened in TX where the speed limit is 80MPH. I think it's crazy to drive a truck that fast even when I know I'm driving the best truck for that speed. I just won't do it.

Too much can go wrong at 80mph in a loaded big truck! Especially down south where the pavement can really get warm. Also at 80mph you are going to burn far more fuel then it would even be remotely close to being economic!
around town is always lower mpg starting and stopping then getting to speed and staying there even my 1986 mercedes 300 sdl gets only 24 mpg around town and 28 on the highway my T700 gets my best fuel economy long runs at 65 mph the compant trucks goverened at 62 work harder to get up to speed and up inclines and avg only 6 mpg while i avg 7 mpg
Alex did this happen suddenly? If it did have your air cooler, charger, pressure tested. Do u have an EGR motor? They get terrible fuel mileage with the winter blend and colder temps. For instance, my 2005, 515 det. using winter blend and colder 20 deg. temps has dropped to 6.0, loaded. I have lost .8/g. Now using regular blend fuel, warm conditions mty I get 7.8 vs winter blend, cold, I get 6.9. Your also idling more in the winter cold. Trust me it adds up. Light Load makes me laugh tooo!!!!! 900 horse cat running mty at 117k 2.7mpgs. Been there done that. You don't want to know what I was getting loaded. The maintenance on this puppy was horrific.
say what you want slick. i know what i get. and it's better at the higher altitude in utah then the lower altitude in cali. albeit only .1. now your going to say that an empty trailer should net at least 2 mpg better then a full load. i only get .2 better with an empty. BUT, if i drop the trailer and bobtail. then i get 3.5 better. i haul a flat. and a tanker.
